I thought the Sports Hall of Fame banquet was fantastic.  I can't wait to see who will join next year.

About the New Library

Posted in: JSO

I am so impressed with the new library!  I especially like the idea for the rooms where students can reserve rooms as needed.  That's helpful for homework meeting purposes.  There's a lot of lighting and I love sitting at the computers, occasionally looking up to see the sky.

Thumbs up from me.

Doc Ryder on The Chapel Experience

THE CHAPEL EXPERIENCE
President Harm Weber often declared that chapel was at the center of the Judson experience. Over the years hat has been taken with varying degrees of seriousness by students, faculty and staff. I have probably attended more services than anyone except Robert Erickson. Like everyone else, I have been inspired by some and grown restless under others.
During the early 1970s, chapel services were held in the old gymnasium, with  three hundred chairs, arranged in a semi-circle about the speaker’s rostrum, so that those attending sat about six or seven feet from the speaker.
In all candor, many of the programs during that period fell short of being inspiring.  Dr. Edgar Boss was responsible for bringing in speakers, and had to operate, I’m pretty sure, without a sufficient budget. As I recall, we relied quite heavily on pastors who felt it was a honor to preach to a college audience and volunteered.  Under these circumstances it was unusual to hear a sermon that was particularly suited to college students. Many times it was obvious to me that we were hearing a sermon warmed over from a past Sunday.
One of the welcome changes at Judson since then has been the creation of the Dean of Chapel position, held for more than ten years by alumnus and lecturer Warren Anderson. There is now a budget that allows for bringing in guest speakers or performers. This has allowed for continuity in planning; not only for weeks set aside for one particular topic, but also for including program themes throughout the year.
I have very many varied chapel memories, and would enjoy hearing from you  about how chapel attendance strengthened or did not strengthen your personal faith journey.
